Coming in 2013
New Babbage is a consensual hallucination of a Victorian-era steampunk city in a time that never was. Real people from all over the world "go" there through their computers every day.
Now their stories are in print. Improvisational multi-threaded storylines that branch and twist back on themselves over days or weeks or months. Collected into one volume.
By common agreement, everyone is an avatar in New Babbage. Street urchins, evil geniuses, society ladies, arcane dark-art experimenters and dashing airship pilots - they're all here.
The real people behind the avatars are mostly unregarded and mostly irrelevant. But the stories are real.
Babbagers are proud of their City and you are cordially invited to visit. It's free and easy to reach (no further away than the computer in your next room). Should you find, as we have, that a piece of your spirit yearns to haunt our streets, then there is a place for you there - or rather, that steampunk avatar you've always wanted to be.
Learn more about New Babbage:
Our paramount goal is to serve the interests of the author by increasing their visibility to the broader publishing industry. We welcome and encourage authors to find larger publishing houses for their work, so our contributors retain the right to license their work in any other form at any time. Our projects are designed to showcase writers whose careers are just beginning, and help them find the fans and supporters for their future endeavors.
We believe strongly that readers and fans want a flow of good, entertaining stories in this wonderful genre, so we believe in the idea of crowdsourcing the resources needed to publish them, and rely on fans to help with promotion. We take pride in executing each project with a minimum of overhead, and pledge to keep prices and costs as low as possible to increase everyone's enjoyment and keep the work coming.
Because our primary mission is to showcase authors without proven track records, we provide publication as a service and do not normally pay to license stories. We also believe, however, that authors should benefit from their work to the greatest extent possible, and support creative arrangements to share any proceeds from our projects with them directly, or contribute them to a cause they support generally. We support an "open-book" policy between the Press and the contributing authors regarding the financial details behind the projects in which they participate. In short, authors: you won't get rich, but you will get seen, and you'll know what happens every step of the way.
Technically, Babbage Fiction Press is independent of the owner of New Babbage, but the Clockwinder is integral to the Press and we operate under his oversight.
Babbage Fiction Press is currently developing concepts for future projects and we welcome your input and ideas. Once projects are announced, submissions can be sumitted through our site, or to firstname.lastname@example.org.
